Sustainability

At The African Regent Hotel, our commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is at the heart of how we operate. As a proudly Ghanaian-owned hospitality leader, we strive to create lasting value for our guests, employees, community, and environment. From minimizing our ecological footprint and championing local partnerships, to upholding the highest standards of ethics and governance, we believe that responsible hospitality drives long-term impact. Through continuous improvement and collaboration, we aim to contribute meaningfully to a more sustainable and inclusive future.

At The African Regent, we have always placed a premium on ethical and responsible practices. Animal Welfare is central to our values and integral to our business; enabling us meet Guest's expectation of high quality and sustainably reared animals. We are committed to this worth cause incorporating HACCP.

As such, we are excited to announce our committment to sourcing 100% of our eggs - whether shell, liquid or egg ingredient products - from cage free sources by the end of 2025.

By transitioning to cage-free sourcing, we are ensuring that egg-laying hens have the opportunity to engage in their natural behaviours including nesting, spreading their wings and dust bathing by partnering with the Animal Welfare League. https://www.animalwelfareleague.org/

Water is a vital resource for our guests, staff, and surrounding communities—and it also represents a significant operational cost. At The African Regent Hotel, we are committed to using water responsibly by improving efficiency and reducing consumption across our operations. In alignment with SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, we actively promote water conservation practices, including initiatives that invite guests to support our efforts by reusing towels and bed linens during their stay. These small actions make a big impact, helping to save thousands of liters of water annually. Together with our guests, we’re working toward a more sustainable future—protecting precious resources while ensuring the highest standards of comfort and care.
Supporting SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy & SDG 13: Climate Action At The African Regent Hotel, our commitment to sustainability goes beyond words—it’s built into how we operate every day. As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, we have invested in a solar-powered boiler system to meet a portion of our hot water needs sustainably. This innovative system harnesses Ghana’s abundant sunlight, reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. By choosing solar energy, we’re not only decreasing operational costs but also contributing to a cleaner, more resilient future for our community and planet. How It Supports the SDGs:
  • SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy:
We are reducing dependence on fossil fuels by integrating renewable energy into our daily operations.

  • SDG 13 – Climate Action:
Every kilowatt of solar energy used helps cut emissions and supports global efforts to combat climate change.

As a proudly Ghanaian-owned hotel, we are committed to making sustainability a core part of our identity—honoring both our heritage and our responsibility to future generations.
We prioritize the health and wellbeing of both our staff and guests, ensuring safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces where everyone can thrive. In alignment with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, we foster environments that promote physical, mental, and emotional wellness across all touchpoints of the guest and employee experience. From reducing our environmental footprint and sourcing locally (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production), to fostering employee development (SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth) and maintaining the highest standards of ethics and governance (SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), we believe that responsible hospitality is key to sustainable success.
